Neck Lift

Aging, genetics, weight loss, and sun exposure can all contribute to sagging neck skin and reduced jawline definition that results in an aged appearance. Over time, the muscles in the neck can begin to weaken, causing skin and fat underneath the chin to hang unsupported. If you have noticed the development of jowls or a loss of jawline definition, then you may be the right candidate for a neck lift.

Innova Wellness Spa offers neck lift surgery to help our patients contour and tighten their jawlines. Neck lifts can be adjusted according to the unique needs of each patient. Several different procedures can be used for improving the appearance of the neck.

Types of Necklift Procedures

  • Cervicoplasty is a procedure that removes excess skin through small incisions under the chin and behind the ears. The skin is then lifted into its improved, natural position and secured with sutures.
  • Platysmaplasty is another procedure used to reduce the banded appearance of the neck. In this procedure, the surgeon removes or realigns specific muscles of the neck and sutures them into position.

Candidates for a Neck Lift

In order to be eligible for any cosmetic surgery, patients need to be in good health and be able to undergo anesthesia. Good candidates for a neck lift are patients who:

  • Have loose or sagging neck and jaw line skin
  • Have excess fat underneath the chin that creates a “double chin”
  • Are not ready for facelift surgery but have neck skin laxity as well
  • Do not smoke and are in overall good health

Patients interested in a neck lift procedure should be prepared to maintain a healthy body weight in order to enjoy their results for years to come. Neck lift surgery can also be combined with other cosmetic procedures like blepharoplasty, a brow lift, fat transfer, and injectable treatments. A neck lift is also commonly a vital component of a facelift, so patients interested in rejuvenating their facial appearance may also benefit from a simultaneous neck lift procedure.

Recovery and Results

Most patients return to work about one to two weeks following their neck lift surgery, although bruising, swelling and other side effects may still be present. Light activity may be resumed after about three to four weeks, and more strenuous activities like exercise may be continued in five to six weeks. A full recovery from a neck lift will take one to two months, depending on the extent of the procedure for each patient.

Results will begin to be noticeable once the swelling goes down after a few weeks of recovery. Final results will not be evident until three to six months after the procedure, as the neck heals and swelling dissipates. Following a full recovery, the jawline will appear sharper and better contoured, while the neck will look smoother, tighter, and more youthful.
